The Budapest Flood of 1838

This relief depicts a scene that accord during the flood of 1838. This was the worst flood in history Budapest. The relief which is located at the Pest Franciscan Church, was made to show how high the water got. In the relief you can see a man in the boat rescuing people. The man was Miklos Wesselenyi a statesman and leader of the upper house of congress. He became when of the hero's of the flood. Throughout Budapest there are reliefs showing how the water got and events that happened during the flood. It is a very unique way to remember a disaster through art.
