Review On My Days In Budapest

As you have seeing in the pictures I have posted, Budapest is an amazing city. During my trip through Europe I visited Budapest twice. The pictures in my previous posts are from the fisrt time I visited the city. This first time I spent 4 amazing days exploring the city. When I arrived in the city, I had the fortune of meeting Beth, while I was checking to my hostel. It was great to be able to make a friend right away. I spent the first day. In Budapest exploring the Buda side of the city with Beth. The next day, I ventured out on my own. I went on a great walking tour of the city, Which I would highly recommend.  Walking tours are a great way to see a city, if you have a limited amount of time, and a small budget. (Most walking tours are tip based) On Saturday I spent the day with my new friends Beth, Chelsea, and Angus. Exploring the city. On my last day after a really fun night out, hanging out in Budapest famous ruin bars. I visited the famous Gellert Baths and Spa's. A real treat, and a great way to unwind from a late night out. Then I was off on train to my next destation Prague.

St. Matthias Church

Built in 1015 in Romanesque style St. Matthias towers over Buda. It is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Budapest. Used for coronation and major events since it was built.

Matthias Fountain

located on the western court of Buda castle. Matthias Fountain has to be one of the most impressive fountains I have ever seeing. Created by Alajos Strobl  in a Neo-Baroque style, this masterpiece  depicts King Matthias during a hunt.

Fisherman's Bastion (1)

Fisherman's Bastion is located on Buda side over looking the Danube and in front of Matthias Church. This neo-Gothic neo-Romanesque terrace was built in 1895. It looks older because it was inspired by a Medieval wall that stood in the same location. During Medieval times, this area of the city had wall that was maned by fisherman. They would guard  the wall and sale there catch.  That is where the name comes from. In my experience it is very crowded, but worth it. The view is amazing. You can see the Parliament building as well as Sziget Island. This is just a breath taking place

Buda Castle

Buda Castle is located on Castle Hill diagonal from the parliament. The castle was built in 1265 by king Bela the IV.  The castle has being used be medieval Hungrarian kings to Nazis. Its is currently a museum and library.  The castle has being a big part of hungrarian history. It was used for the   coronation of  the last king of the Austro-Hungarian empire Charles the IV. During world war 2 major battles to places around the castle. It was the last strong hold in Hungary of the Nazis during the war. Due to the battles that took place around the castle there was  extensive damage.  Due to this damage the years from 1948 to 1968 where ones marked by heavy reconstruction efforts. The history of Buda Castle is much to vast for a blog post.
The view from the castle is just amazing. Clearly the view of the Danube is amazing. It also has a great view of the Parliament, and Saint Stephen's basilica.
